Our Adult ProgramsAdult Faith Formation
You never stop growing in your career, your relationships, or your interests. Your faith isn’t any different. At Saints JFX, we believe that a full, life-giving faith journey includes a commitment to spiritual growth and learning, and we’re committed to providing the opportunities to make that happen. How you do that is as unique as you are. At Saints JFX, we offer a variety of opportunities for adult faith formation and development on a weekly basis. These include:
In addition to our regular opportunities for formation, we also host annual events and speakers. For over 20 years, we’ve sponsored an annual women’s retreat and we also offer a yearly retreat for men. We support an annual Lenten prayer series, host sacred music performances, and regularly host Catholic speakers to talk about a wide range of issues. If you’re hoping to grow, we probably have something for you. If we don’t have what you’re looking for, we’ll work with you to make it happen. Saints JFX is a place for everyone, no matter where you are in your spiritual life. However, if you’re at a point in your faith journey where you’re ready to become a member of the Catholic Church, we’re ready to walk that path with you. In the Catholic Church, we call the process for entering the Church RCIA (the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults). Going through this process doesn’t mean you’re certain you want to become Catholic. All it means is that you’re ready to come and see, learn, and grow in a community of faithful people who are also seeking to learn and grow closer to God. We gather regularly in a casual, conversational atmosphere to address a variety of topics from scripture to sacraments, Catholic teaching, and tradition. We seek to deepen our inquiry into a life that calls us to a deeper meaning through relationship with Jesus Christ. RCIA is for folks who have never been baptized, those who have been baptized in other Christian traditions and would like to become Catholic, and for those baptized in the Catholic faith but who have never received first Communion or confirmation. Do you know someone who might be pondering the RCIA process? Someone you would like to invite to come to a session and learn more about it? Someone who might have some questions about RCIA? Please consider mentioning and inviting others to RCIA. At Saints JFX, people who want to think and share about questions in their faith life find a home in our “God Talk” groups. Our group members meet weekly to discuss a variety of issues of faith and living their discipleship in a friendly, supportive, and non-judgmental environment. Topics vary from questions of faith to Church teachings to how we live our Christian lives. The result is an honest, rich exchange of ideas and experiences that nourishes the faith life of everyone there. If you’re looking for a place where you can bring your questions or go deeper with your faith, these groups might be right for you. Click the Learn More button above to get connected! Scripture Bible Study
God speaks to us in the Scriptures, but the conversation speaks to our whole lives. If you are ready to deepen the conversation, these groups are for you. At Saints JFX, we completely understand that “Bible study” can be intimidating for someone who might not have tried it before. The Bible can seem unapproachable at first. That’s why our Bible study groups work to give us the tools to understand the Bible more deeply and see how it’s speaking to our lives. Each week, our groups review the readings for the upcoming Sunday. As a group, we explore the readings together. Group leaders help unpack the history and context of the readings, but we also rely on close readings and input of everyone in the group. Most importantly, we take time as a group to ask “what is God saying to me? How does this speak to my faith journey?” If you’re ready to try our group and see how it can help deepen your faith, click the Learn More button above! Lectio Divina
Ready to discover what God is saying to you in your life right now? Lectio Divina (which means “sacred reading”) offers a simple, profound practice for God to speak in your life in a way that’s as unique as you are. Every week, you’ll gather with a companion group of prayers. With the help of an experienced prayer guide, you’ll listen carefully for a word or phrase from sacred Scripture that’s speaking to the heart of your own personal experience and life right now. You’ll have a chance to hear God speak to your personal experience, meditate on what that might mean in your life, and, if you choose, share about your experience with others. No experience necessary—God is already speaking to your heart. We’re just here to help you listen. We meet virtually once a week and our shared prayer lasts an hour or less. If you’re ready to join this form of prayer, click the Learn More button above to connect with our group. |
